About Us
Arbiter Systems was incorporated in 1973 in the state of California as an engineering services company. The original founders successfully expanded the company primarily by doing research for the U.S. Navy in the field of metrology. Two of the many products developed during the early years formed the basis for our current product lines. These products were the 1026 Satellite-Controlled Clock, introduced in 1976, which was the first truly accurate GOES clock and for which Arbiter Systems was awarded a patent on the time-delay correction algorithms; and the 1040 Panel Meter Calibrator, introduced in 1979, which set new standards for a portable ac/dc calibration source. The company was sold in 1986 due to the poor health of one of the original founders.
The present management of Arbiter Systems brought strong engineering backgrounds to the company. In 1988, management decided to shift the company's emphasis from government engineering services to product development, with the goal to have 100% of revenues generated from commercial sales. Reliance on government services contracts and large government procurement contracts ended in 1991 and 1992. Even with this change in direction, Arbiter Systems' business base continues to grow 20% to 40% per year from 1988 to the present, with a solid financial base for future sustained growth.
Arbiter Systems' product line has expanded to over thirty different products in three basic categories: calibration, timing, and metrology. The first two categories are tailored to the world wide electric power industry and generate 85% of revenue. The metrology instruments were primarily developed on Navy research contracts and sold to laboratories in aerospace and defense. Arbiter Systems continues to sell and service these metrology products, but at this time there are no plans to expand this product line. During this same period management made a conscious decision to become a leader in customer service; and as a consequence, Arbiter Systems is highly regarded by our customers for our level of technical support, product quality, and user friendly products.
For the future, Arbiter Systems plans for a continued aggressive new product introduction schedule geared toward providing complete solutions for calibration and timing in the power industry. We are also expanding our timing product offerings into the communication and computer markets with additional software and GPS-based frequency standards. We have also committed to expanding our international marketing while maintaining our traditional high level of customer service.
Arbiter Systems is located in the small community of Paso Robles on the Central Coast of California. Every one of our employees is committed to quality, service, and value. This is what has kept us one step ahead of our competition while we have grown and thrived. We love this challenge and look forward to the future with confidence and enthusiasm.
